School of Life Sciences and Technology at ITB has a long standing reputation in the development of life sciences and technology, since its inception as Biology Department. In the course of its growth, touching issues around sustainability and management of tropical resources, The School is required to build an academic framework on an interdisciplinary basis that combines the foundation of life sciences with other approaches, including social sciences, economics and management.
Master’s program in Biomanagement (previously named Management of Biological Resources and Tropical Environment) is established to fulfill that challenge. The program officially started in 2008, and was designed to respond to the need for professionals who are able to manage resources and environment, specifically in a particular tropical region.
Courses
The curriculum at our study program is designed produce graduates that are able to make use of interdisciplinary approaches to identify current issues in sustainable use, value adding activities, and conservation of Indonesia’s tropical bio-resources; to plan, organize and evaluate tropical resource management practices, and to develop leadership and entrepreneurship capacity independently.
Master’s theses
Research in Biomanagement relates with issues around sustainable use of bio-resources, using various theoretical frameworks in an interdisciplinary manner which also includes ecology, economics and social. In general, research in Biomanagement can be divided into two main topics: area management and bio-product development.
Academic Staff
In accordance with its core interdisciplinary research, academic staff in Biomanagement has a wide variety of academic background and expertise, which include the fields of ecology, economics, management, sociology, geography, environmental science, political science, as well as agronomy and forestry.
Public Lecture Series
Master’s program in Biomanagement organizes a series of monthly public lecture that invites industry practitioners and policy makers for issues related to bio-resources, delivered in a light and interesting fashion. This series of public lecture is open for students as well as wider audiences, and it’s free of charge.
