The School of Life Sciences and Technology (SITH) ITB has a long reputation in scientific and technological development in the field of life sciences, since its establishment as the Department of Biology. In its journey to come into contact with issues of sustainability and, on the other hand, management based on tropical biological characteristics, SITH is required to be able to build an interdisciplinary-based academic framework, combining its life science base with social, economic and managerial approaches.
The Master of Biomanagement study program, which was previously named the Tropical Biological Resources and Environment Management study program, was organized to answer these challenges. Biomanagement, which was officially established in 2008, was designed to respond to the need for professional experts who are able to manage biological resources and the environment in tropical areas. Biomanagement aims to produce professional master graduates in the field of biological resource management and ecosystem areas who are superior and able to compete with managers at the global level in increasing the added value of bioproducts or the value of ecosystem areas in a sustainable manner.
Research in the Biomanagement Study Program is related to sustainable management of biological resources using various theoretical frameworks in an interdisciplinary manner: Biology, Economics and Social. Broadly speaking, research in Biomanagement is divided into 2 major topics: Area management and Commodity management. Here.
Biomanagement has special programs including student exchange and double-degree by Kyoto University and Unification Program for ITB undergraduate students. The Biomanagement Study Program has sent several students to carry out exchanges and double degrees at Kyoto University since 2017. In addition, Biomanagement offers a Unification Program for outstanding ITB undergraduate students to continue accelerated studies that provide opportunities for ITB students to complete undergraduate and graduate programs within 5 (five) years, where in the fourth year undergraduate students can take an additional 6-12 credits of graduate-level courses, which will be recognized when continuing their studies to the Masters Program.
iomanagement graduates are now spread across various public, private and international sectors. The Biomanagement study program equips graduates with a holistic understanding of a problem so that they can easily adapt to a wide range of employment sectors.
